I feel like I’ve been gone forever, but the truth is I was just gone for a week. Although, we haven’t posted in about 2 weeks and that’s totally my fault. My family and I took a trip to Disney World in Orlando, FL. Every 2 years since I was 6 years old my mother has always enjoyed planning vacations to Disney World. It’s a tradition in this family and it is the one trip that we love and hate at the same time. I love seeing my children enjoying the rides and experiencing the magic of Disney but the vacation isn’t exactly a vacation. It’s non stop and it’s physically and mentally exhausting. My husband and my mother are both Aries and they always seem to clash on this vacation. Yet we still plan the trip and we still go and I still want to murder them both. My husband is like super grouch on this trip each and every time. I’m not sure why we still invite him or why he still wants to go. I think it’s just seeing our boys experiencing new things which makes it desirable for him to want to be there. Even though hubby was Mr. Grumpy and we were beat we still had a blast. Hands down favorite ride is Flight of the Avatar at Animal Kingdom. I don’t know how Disney did it but you feel like you’re actually in Pandora. Kids had a blast and my mom is already planning our next trip.
Once we got back I needed some time to unwind. It took me a week to adjust back to our normal lives. I had to get the kids back to school and go back to our regular routines. Definitely not an easy task and my youngest still thought we had to get up crazy early and that part sucks so bad because I am a sleeper. Anyway, this post isn’t about my vacation but more about the makeup I brought with me and wore on my vacation.
Since I am a makeup hoarder it was not an easy task to decide what makeup I was going to bring with me. I knew I wanted to do a fun makeup look for Halloween so I had to bring a palette that was going to allow me to do so. I decided on the Jaclyn Hill Palette that I wrote a review on not so long ago. It had the colors I needed for my Halloween look. We spent Halloween in Disney which was such a blast. Magic Kingdom throws a Halloween Party and its so fun, except my kids were being really moody that night. Even my husband had a good time, I just can’t ever win. I was going to add lashes to my look but while I was attempting to apply my last lash my mother decides that it was a good time to speak with me and so I wound up poking myself in the eye. Anyone who has ever done this while applying strip lashes knows that you can just forget about it after that. My eye would not stop watering so I had to just give it up. My look was like a galactic alien type of look. Of course I didn’t really have a costume. My oldest Jayden was some Dragon Ball Z character, I’m clueless of the name and Xavier was Captain Hook.
When I was deciding what makeup I wanted to bring I knew I wanted to purchase or bring makeup that was going to last all day long. I also know what type of weather we were walking into so I had to prepare for that as well. Florida weather in the month of October/November has always been inconsistent every time we’ve gone. One time it was unusually cold and we wound up wearing our winter coats the entire trip. Another time it was unusually hot and humid and we were so uncomfortable. But luckily this time we went it was high 70’s low 80’s with low humidity and it was perfection. I did however, want a foundation that was light to medium coverage and sweat proof. I don’t like to wear full coverage foundation in the heat nor do I like to wear it during the daytime. Unfortunately, I didn’t have that foundation in my collection so I went to Ulta. There I wound up getting a new foundation.
I will get into the new foundation in a moment, but first I want to discuss another new item I purchased that day. Before foundation comes the base and since I knew my face would be dry from the heat, I needed something that would also prime my skin. I bought Smashbox’s new primer called Photo Finish Primerizer. This is a primer and a moisturizer combined. I really like this primer, it definitely kept my skin hydrated and did seem to keep my makeup on longer. Of course it was a combination of that and a mix of the perfect products which seemed to leave my makeup flawless, I’m pretty sure this primer had a lot to do with it. Now this primer is not cheap but I truly do recommend it if you have dry skin and are looking to reduce time by skipping steps. This product is $42 and can be purchased at Sephora, Ulta or online at Smashbox’s website.
Now back to the foundation. Again, I wanted a light to medium coverage and sweat proof foundation and this foundation is both. Funny because Bare Minerals is an actually really great brand. I love their powder foundation. However, they’re never the first Brand I run to for products but after trying this foundation I feel bad for not trying out more of their products. This foundation is really, really, really good. For me it was medium coverage but totally buildable and the coverage does last throughout the day. It was comfortable on my skin, very lightweight and looked flawless. It’s very affordable at $34 and you get a lot of product in the bottle. I only needed to use about 2 pumps and it wound up covering my entire face. I also reach for it non stop now and it’s my go to foundation for the past month. Definitely worth purchasing.
If you follow our blog on our social media @bbeautyunfltrd, you would have seen me post about this stick bronzer before. I tend to lean toward stick or cream contour during summer or when I’m in warmer environments. I especially love wearing them when I have a slight tan. It just gives your contour an extra oompf. This has quickly become one of my favorites. I’m also a huge fan of the Smashbox Contour Sticks but this one is also a go to for me. Since I’m olive toned this bronzer is the perfect warm toned bronzing stick. So of course test it out before you purchase this. Not all skin tones look good in warm contour colors. It also is extremely blendable and you can’t seem to use too much. Meaning, it doesn’t matter how much you apply, it blends out and doesn’t look overwhelming or patchy. The Benefit Hoola Contour Stick isn’t cheap, it’s $28 and you don’t get all that much product but I love it and find it to be worthy of it’s price range. Although, be very careful with this product, mine actually broke off and flew out of the bottle. I was able to save it but now I have to be extremely careful with it.
This next product has become my Holy Grail of setting powders. Forever I have used RCMA’s Translucent Setting powder. It is not only inexpensive, it’s also a quality product that will last you forever. However, I am always looking for new products and heard such great things about the Too Faced Born this Way Ethereal Setting Powder. Once I tried it, I could see why everyone loves it. This has replaced my love for RCMA in a big, big way. It’s $32 but worth every bit of that cost. It’s so finely milled that it’s like putting air under your eyes and on your skin, but that air sets your foundation and concealer like nothing I’ve ever seen. It is cream colored powder which does seem to brighten my under eye area and it also makes your face feel so soft and smooth like silk. It sets like a dream, my concealer didn’t crease as much as it normally does, it also did not dry out my under eye area like most powders do and my foundation did not budge at all.
I’m a blush gal!!!! I love blush so much that sometimes I tend to overdue it. But for me blush just finishes off my look and its a product I can’t live without. It warms up my face and brings life back to it. So when I saw this product on the shelf I just knew I had to have it. Not only do I love buying blush palettes because I feel like you get your money’s worth and virtually never need to really own any other blush but it also is great for traveling. This Tarte Cosmetics Limited Edition Blush Palette is $44 but just by looking at it you can tell it’s sooooooo worth the money. Tarte blushes are some of the best blushes out there. They are long wearing and extremely pigmented. So a little goes a long way with these blushes. But a single Tarte blush is priced at $29, you get 8 blushes and 2 highlighters in this palette. Of course the pan sizes are smaller, you still get a good deal here. The highlighters are also very good quality and the color selection is excellent. Like I said, this item is limited edition for the Holidays so if you want to get your hands on it, you better hurry before you miss out.
My final item is an oldie but a goodie. Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray is one of the best out there. This setting spray will allow your makeup a good chance of staying all day. Heck, it’s right there in the title. And it does as it claims. By the end of the day, my makeup hadn’t budged. I am now hooked on this setting spray and it’s what I reach for pretty much every day when I do my makeup. It isn’t even that costly. It’s $15 and you get a decent amount of product. I’ve been using it non stop since I returned from my trip and I still have a good amount of product left. Again, it’s a must have in anyone’s makeup collection.
So, that’s about it. These are all new products to me even though some have been out awhile. They held up in heat, they held up without me having to touch up or reapply and they were worthy of praise. Let me know if you have any of the products and your opinions on them. We love having some dialogue.
